New premium original fitment options with Hankook Tire's Ventus S1 evo² SUV, winter i*cept evo² SUV, or Kinergy GT

Brand New premium original fitment options with Hankook Tire's Ventus S1 evo² SUV, winter i*cept evo² SUV, or Kinergy GT 2018. 05. 31 - The current generation of the BMW X3 has been on the market since November 2017, and is available with tire options including Hankook Tire's summer tires in the size 225/60 R18 104 W XL or Hankook Tire's winter tires in 225/60 R18 104 H XL or an all season tire. With more than 1.5 million vehicles sold world-wide since the BMW X3 was launched in 2003, the model is one of the most popular in its class. The premium Hankook Ventus S1 evo² SUV, winter i*cept evo² SUV, and Kinergy GT tires contribute towards the brand-typical driving dynamics and agile handling of the new BMW X3. The passenger car version of these tires has already proven itself as an original fitment tire on the flagship BMW 7 Series among others. May 31, 2018 (Seoul, Korea) - Hankook Tire wins another original fitment order covering both summer and winter tires, this time for the current BMW X3. This year for the first time, 25 percent of passenger car production will be for the popular SUV vehicle segment in Europe. Hankook Tire supplies its Ultra High Performance (UHP) tires in an SUV version especially for this product class. The BMW Group recognised the trend towards this versatile vehicle class early and was very successful with the predecessor models of the BMW X3. In terms of tires for the third BMW X3 generation, the manufacturer favours the Hankook Tire brand amongst others. The BMW X3 can be delivered with the Ventus S1 evo² SUV in size 225/60 R18 104 W XL or Hankook Tire's winter i*cept evo² SUV in 225/60 R18 104 H XL for a dynamic sporty appearance, or with the all season tire Kinergy GT. With the summer tire in particular, the BMW Group required Hankook Tire's engineers to develop a tire that offers a high performance without compromising comfort, thus not only doing justice to the brand's sporty reputation but also matching the comfortable yet agile character of the BMW X3. To meet these requirements, the Ventus S1 evo² SUV with the star marking for the BMW X3 has been fitted with a specially adapted bead filler. This has been specifically designed for more sporty vehicles and offers the necessary rigidity to guarantee high steering precision that does justice to the vehicle's driving dynamics and still gently cushions the increased weight of an SUV. To be able to cope with high temperatures the Ventus S1 evo² SUV is exposed to driving at approved speeds of up to 270km/h and the reinforced layers are made of a specially developed heat-resistant hybrid textile. The high rigidity of the lower sidewall also achieves particularly good handling characteristics. The rolling resistance has been significantly reduced with the aid of a multi-layer tread structure. At the same time, the tread compound enhances wet grip, thus optimally supplementing the safety features of the BMW X3. The tires also offer a particularly low rolling noise to match the acoustic glazing of the windscreen fitted as standard. The innovative DTM inspired 3-layer block design, with its special staircase arrangement of the outer rib blocks, ensures an improved contact surface even as tire wear progresses, thereby guaranteeing very good traction throughout the entire lifetime of the tire. “The fact that our summer and winter tires are now being used as original equipment not only for the BMW 7 Series but also for the BMW X3 is a testament to the engineering performance of our tire developers and proof of the high quality of our products,” said Hyun Bum Cho, President & CEO of Hankook Tire. “Hankook Tire's investment in its own winter testing ground “Technotrac” in Ivalo, Finland, which provides us with a very good basis for the development of winter tires for original fitment as well, is certainly paying off on the European market, which is a very important market for us.” Like the summer tires, the winter i*cept evo² SUV with the star marking has been designed to provide optimum support for the driving dynamics of the BMW X3 even in wintry weather conditions. Development work focussed particularly on good track performance as well as on low rolling resistance. By minimising block movement and wear, 3D sipes applied to the entire tread area ensure additional driving stability as well as improving the general handling properties with the aid of maximised edge effects. A highly dispersible nano-silica compound is used, which prevents hardening of the tire at low temperatures and thus ensures better grip on wintry and wet roads through greater elasticity of the tire contact area, as shown by the short braking distances. The rolling noise is pleasantly quiet for a winter tire, thus increasing driving comfort and reducing noise pollution for the environment. Ultra-High-Performance (UHP) tire patterns Ventus S1 evo 3 will be fitted on the Golf GTI und Golf R; and Ventus S1 evo 2 SUV or evo 3 SUV on the Tiguan R. “The tires deployed on the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Golf R, and Tiguan R, are also ideal for everyday use, thereby further expanding our portfolio of original equipment. This shows once again the wide range of our products, which are designed to fulfill the most diverse requirements,” commented Moonhwa Hong, Senior Vice President and CTO of OE Development Department at Hankook Tire. “We placed particular emphasis on ensuring that the tires perfectly combine sportiness and the comfort required for a high level of everyday use.” The particularly sporty R variant of the Tiguan will be exclusively fitted with the Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV which has a wheel size of 21 inches. The Ventus S1 evo 2 SUV, which has already received many awards from the European trade media, is available for the 20-inch wheel size. Both SUV patterns demonstrate a successful combination of high-level dynamic response, comfort and wet grip, especially in challenging conditions. The Ventus S1 evo 3 is equipped with a high-strength bead core, which in combination with the reinforced sidewall ensures high driving and directional stability, as well as steering precision. These features support sporty and dynamic handling, which is particularly beneficial for the high-performance Golf GTI and R models. In addition, the particularly light rayon carcass and the use of a special aramid composite material in the belt area reduce unwanted increases in the rolling circumference by up to 60 percent, even at very high speeds, compared to previously commonly-used materials. This also has a positive effect on driving stability and steering precision. The special tread compound uses high-performance natural resins and ensures the necessary grip, as well as excellent traction and braking performance on both dry and wet road surfaces. “Hankook Tire and Volkswagen's relationship dates back to 2001. Since then, we fitted many of Volkswagen's popular models including SUV and electric vehicle. Hankook extends product portfolio for Premium SUVs

Brand Hankook extends product portfolio for Premium SUVs 2017. 03. 27 - Tyre maker Hankook is further expanding its line-up for the SUV segment. Beside high levels of comfort, safety and performance the company's flagship tyre for the ever growing group of sports utility vehicles, the Ventus S1 evo² SUV had been especially developed with a low level of rolling resistance. It recently has been also selected as Original Equipment by Daimler AG. Sole production for these tyre types takes place at Hankook's European high tech plant in Hungary. Neu-Isenburg, Germany, 27. March 2017 – Premium tyre maker Hankook is further extending its tyre portfolio for the premium performance vehicle segment through the expansion of the line-up for its high end tyre Ventus S1 evo² SUV. The tyres were developed not only around the focus safety, performance and comfort-related aspects typical for premium automobiles, such as precise handling, excellent braking performance in both dry and wet, high directional stability and low rolling noise. Hankook's engineers also realized a considerable reduction in rolling resistance. The latter was achieved by applying a state-of-the-art high-grip styrene-polymer-silica mixture that not only enables optimised wet grip, but also enhances the tyre's environmental compatibility. The company will provide specific high-performance yet very low rolling resistance SUV versions from its multiple award-winning Ventus line also for the popular Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLC Coupé. The Stuttgart-based premium automobile manufacturer's latest generation midsize SUVs are fitted with the Hankook Ventus S1 evo² SUV ex works. Hankook supplies the Mercedes-Benz GLC in size 235/65R17 V MO (Mercedes-Benz Original) or 235/60R18 V MO. Especially the 18 inch MO version distinguished itself during the test phase for its outstandingly low level of rolling resistance and was therefore chosen from Daimler AG as Original Equipment tyre for the CO2 emission relevant EU markets. Additionally the sporty Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé is fitted with 19 inch tyres in mixed sizes 235/55R19 Y MO (front) and 255/50R19 Y MO (rear) matching the dynamic driving characteristics of the coupé. “The superior performance of the product documents our potential of being able to supply the market with Hankook state-of-the-art technology and top quality in all premium automobile segments – commercial vehicles, passenger cars, as well as the popular SUV segment,” explains Mr. Seung-Hwa Suh, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hankook Tire. “We are especially proud of the fact that the original fitment tyres for Daimler AG including the patterns for the Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLC Coupé are being developed in cooperation with our German-based R&D centre and manufactured completely in our advanced European production facility in Hungary.” The sophisticated technology of the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 SUV with its multiple tread radius and double-layer rayon carcass also effectively support SUV terrain characteristics by providing maximum tread contact under all conditions. The tyre's innovative DTM inspired 3-layer block design, with its special staircase arrangement of the outer rib blocks, ensures an evenly gripping contact area even as wear progresses thereby guaranteeing very good traction performance throughout the entire lifetime of the tyre. By increasing the mixing times at lower temperatures, a significant increase in the bonding rate and a more targeted linking of the carbon black with the rubber molecules has been achieved for the tread compound. The result is a lower amount of heat developed while driving, which also has positive effect on the driving dynamics and especially the rolling resistance and wear behaviour. Furthermore, a newly developed styrene polymer also significantly boosts the grip level of the tyre for outstanding brake and traction performance on wet roads.
